<p>Internationally acclaimed multimedia artist <a href="http://www.kellyrichardson.net">Kelly Richardson</a> will be speaking about her art at the University of the Incarnate Word in an event sponsored by the San Antonio ACM SIGGRAPH Professonal Chapter. Richardson&#8217;s works appear in the permanent collections of the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. and the Musée d&#8217;art contemporain de Montréal, as well as beening shown at the Sundance Film Festival. <em>Elle</em> magazine Canada has included Kelly Richardson in their 2011 Hot 100 list, saying &#8220;Photographer and videographer Kelly Richardson dreams up landscapes that have a fantastically surreal bent.&#8221;</p>
<p>This talk on February 17th, 2011 at 7:30PM is free and open to the public. Head over to UIW&#8217;s Joyce Building (the building next to the clock tower) and look for room JB 126. Come out and meet this very talented multi-media innovator.</p>

<p>Kelly Richardson&#8217;s amazing installations are currently being featured at <a href="http://artpace.com/">Artpace San Antonio</a> where she was recently welcomed as one of the International Artists-in-residence during the months of January-March. The residency will support the production of new work to be exhibited at Artpace from March 24-May 22, 2011.</p>
<p>Two of Kelly Richardson&#8217;s videos have been selected to be shown at the Sundance Film Festival. “Exiles of the Shattered Star” and “Twilight Avenger” have been selected to represent 5 years of New Frontiers, an exhibition which explores the latest in cinematic innovation and transmedia storytelling. Both works were originally included in <em>New Frontiers 2009</em>; this year, they will exhibit in <em>An Artist at the Table</em>, a special event which will kick-off the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.</p>

<p>The <strong>San Antonio ACM SIGGRAPH Professonal Chapter</strong> is bringing in a dozy of a presentation for fans of visual effects in SciFi movies and television shows. Head over to the University of the Incarnate Word for <strong><a href="http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=111631825563213&amp;ref=mf">A Night with 3D VFX Masters</a></strong> featuring <strong>Rob Powers</strong>, animation technical director for James Cameron&#8217;s <em>Avatar,</em> and Emmy Award-winning VFX artist <strong>Jarrod Davis</strong> to the VFX Masters series of talks Thursday September 30th from 7:30-9:00 pm at the ICC Auditorium at the University of the Incarnate Word (4301 Broadway, San Antonio, Texas 78209). This event is open to the public and free of charge.</p>
<p>Truly a master of the 3D Visual FX industry, Rob Powers will share his experience working as Animation Technical Director on James Cameron&#8217;s <em>Avatar</em>, the technologies used and developed and how he broke into the 3D VFX industry. Powers is currently the Vice President of 3D Development at San Antonio-based <a href="http://www.newtek.com">NewTek</a>, makers of the essential VFX software <strong>Lightwave</strong>. His credits also includes his work as CG supervisor for <em>Aliens of the Deep</em> and he worked as virtual art department supervisor on Steven Spielberg&#8217;s team for the film <em>Tintin,</em> jointly directed by Spielberg and Peter Jackson. He worked on Disney&#8217;s <em>Honey I Shrunk the Kids</em> and Jet Li&#8217;s <em>The One</em>, and was a lead animator on season one of <em>Ally McBeal</em> which included the infamous 3D dancing baby.</p>
<p>Jarrod Davis is an Emmy Award-winning master of visual effects who has worked on numerous television, film, and commercial projects including <em>Van Helsing</em>, <em>Battlestar Galactica</em>, <em>Century City</em>, <em>Firefly</em>, <em>Star Trek: Enterprise</em>, and <em>Star Trek: Voyager</em>.</p>
<p>Davis will be demonstrating his VFX skills and will showcasing Newtek&#8217;s newest release of the much anticipated <a href="http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/lw10.php">Lightwave 10</a>, a truly earth-shaking ground-up redo of their Lighwave 3D software, which has been well established VFX tool-set for rapid production of VFX in television and feature films. Davis is currently Supervisor of Content Development at NewTek</p>

<p>The only place you can see this reel is by attending an annual or local chapter SIGGRAPH meeting. SIGGRAPH is an annual convention put on by the <a href="http://www.siggraph.org/">ACM SIGGRAPH</a> (Association for Computing Machinery&#8217;s Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques) organization.
