Livewire Films Presents “Fuse”

You have to check out this new short film, Fuse, from Live Wire Films and director Mark Cantu. The cinematography, lighting andacting make for a tense, terse thriller of a Sci-Fi short.

In the not-so-distant future, a virus has wiped out some parts of civilization and the only hope lies with the mysterious cure known as Narcissus. Fuse stars Alejandro Vargas Lugo, Stacie Reyes Kidd, Kris Kidd, Jacob Figueroa, Jason Scarbrough, Corando Martinez, Jr., Joshua Thomas, Taylor James Johnson and Nick Sanchez. It was produced by Kris Kidd and directed by Mark Cantu.

Cantu and company won the last San Antonio 48 Hour Film Experience with their entry Love After and this film shows more of their chops. Cantu is shopping this short around to film festivals and we expect to see more awards in the near future.

New Teaser Trailer for Live Wire’s ‘Now Hiring’

Fresh off their win at the 2011 San Antonio 48 Hour Film Experience, Live Wire Films is showing off the teaser trailer for their upcoming superhero feature film, Now Hiring. This project has been in development for several years, originally produced as a short film and screened at several local venues. This new iteration of the project begins filming in July 2012 but you can get the flavor of it now:

Now Hiring is the brainchild of award-winning writer/director Mark Cantu and is produced by Kris Kidd. The film follows Joe Martin (Jason Sedillo), an unemployed man looking for work in order to save his troubled marriage. But when he exaggerates his qualifications during an interview, he winds up landing a job as a superhero. Now, with an evil threat emerging from the past, the city will need its heroes, but will Joe have what it takes to rise this crisis.

This film is currently in pre-production, and boasts an impressive cast that includes newcomers Jason Sedillo, Akasha Banks Villalobos, Jason Scarbrough (Love After), Caitlin Rose Williams (ABC Family’s Make It or Break It, Death Proof, Echo), Scott L. Schwartz (Ocean’s 11, Star Trek: Enterprise), comedian Roman Garcia, award-winning filmmaker Taylor James Johnson, Kris Kidd and Jamye Cox.

SA48HR: Love After

Continuing in our exploration of the 2011 San Antonio 48 Hour Film Experience we present Love After, a short film about a woman in love. The film was created by the skilled Team Live Wire and directed by Mark Cantu. Team Live Wire drew “Chick Flick” as their genre and “Historic” as the location.

‘Now Hiring’ Screens at Texas Comicon

Texas Comicon is this weekend and lots of San Antonio creatives will be showing their work in addition to the guests from out of town including Margot Kidder, Brent Spiner, and Sam Witwer. We’ve already mentioned Mike Fisher’s 3-D Pete’s Star Babe Invasion Comics premiere, but you can also expect to see author David Liss and artists Austin “Redbeard” Rogers, Chris Holm and Freddy Lopez Jr.

One feature just announced is the screening of Now Hiring from Live Wire Films. This superhero short film directed by Mark Cantu blew people away at previous screenings and is being used as a vehicle to raise the money to develop it into a feature-length movie. Noted Cantu, “needless to say, to be involved in an event such as this is a complete honor”.

Now Hiring will be screening at 5:00 pm on Saturday June 25, 2011. Check the Texas Comicon web site for further details about upcoming events.

SA48HR: Endgame

Team Live Wire led by Mark Cantu turned in the action-packed short film Endgame as their contribution to the SA48HR Film Experience. The film follows a rental car manager as he hustles to get a package back for a spy while his sister is held hostage. Some very slick work for one hectic weekend. Bonus points for using the Tom Otterness sculpture Making Hay in south San Antonio as the location for the final scene.

Live Wire’s ‘Now Hiring’ Debuts at the Drafthouse

The much anticipated short film from Live Wire Films and director Mark Cantu premieres this week at the Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes. Now Hiring is a superhero action-comedy that will cap off a night of short films on Wednesday February 24th, 2010 at 7:00 pm. Tickets are just $3.00 and you will have access to all the standard amenities for which the Drafthouse is renowned.

Paul Scofield plays Joe, an average unemployed guy in need of a job. He answers a want ad, but is he ready for this job? Check out the purely awesome trailer and then run, don’t walk, to the Drafthouse boxoffice.

SA48HR: Saint Passions Landing

This short film was the winner of the December San Antonio 48 Hour Film Experience. Team Live Wire drew the soap opera genre and then presented the delightful Saint Passions Landing. While writing their new soap opera, the writers get sidetracked in their imaginations.

Saint Passions Landing was written and directed by Mark Cantu. The language may be strong for your workplace.

Live Wire Films has also made a sweet-looking super hero comedy entitled Now Hiring. The premiere is set for February 24th at the Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes as part of a night of short films. We’ll bring you more info as we get it, but until then, enjoy the trailer.
