Doctor Who - Blink (2007)

Doctor Who - Blink (2007)

Don’t Blink. Blink and you’re dead. Don’t turn your back. Don’t look away. And don’t Blink. Good Luck.

It’s time for one of our favorite monthly events! Doctor Who Appreciation Night is tonight at the Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes and this month’s episodes are ones you don’t want to miss. First up is the Hugo Award winning 2007 episode Blink followed by The Girl in the Fireplace which also snagged the Hugo. These two episodes are some of the absolute best of the David Tennant-era series and admission is free so you have no excuse.

Showtime in Wednesday February 16, 2011 at 7:30 PM and while the show is free you do need a ticket so get there a few minutes early. This screening should prove to be very popular.

Blink was written by Steven Moffat and follows a woman named Sally Sparrow (Carey Mulligan) as she tries to discover the mysterious connection between weird clues on 17 random DVDs and statues of angels that move when nobody is looking. This altogether creepy episode, which premiered June 9, 2007, puts the mystery in the forefront with the Doctor (David Tennant) and Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) making only brief appearances. Blink won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form, and Carey Mulligan received the Constellation Award for Best Female Performance in a 2007 Science Fiction Television Episode. This episode was also nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Script, but lost to Pan’s Labyrinth by Guillermo del Toro (fair enough).

The Girl in the Fireplace was also written by Steven Moffat and premiered on May 6, 2006. The Doctor (David Tennant) along with Rose (Billie Piper) and Mickey (Noel Clarke) travel back in time to 18th century France to discover clockwork automatons stalking Madame de Pompadour (Sophia Myles) througout her life. The Girl in the Fireplace won the 2007 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form and was nominated for the 2006 Nebula Award.

This event is sponsored by Doctor Who Fans Unite and United Fandoms of San Antonio. Besides the excellent Doctor Who and great company, you will be able to purchase handmade Adiposes at this event.
