Presented for your entertainment today is the short film Big Scary German by Film Classic Productions‘ Bryan Ortiz and James Hartz. This humorous short about two unusual children born to two unusual parents shows that our worst fears may be only in our heads. Big Scary German won Best Film and the Audience Choice awards at the 2008 48 Hour San Antonio Film Experience. It stars Cambell Westmoreland, Gabi Walker, Marc Daratt, Dora Pena and Drew Baucus. Enjoy

Small world time – the Big Scary German, Dru Barkus, is also the star of the show now at the Overtime Theater, “The Life & Death of the Amazing Captain Piledriver.” He’s hilarious onstage! Bryan Ortiz did the video clips for “Piledriver.” And writer James Hartz is now the Artistic Director at the Overtime.
Absolutely love this short film! Pure genius
To elaborate further on Jon’s ‘small world’ comment: Drew Barcus has just been cast in The Renaissance Guild’s upcoming production of “Rumors” alongside Nikki Young, who appeared with Gabi Walker in Bryan’s short “Four Minutes Till The End” and who produced his “Fantasy, Inc.” Now, “Fantasy, Inc.” has just been selected to screen at the 2010 San Antonio Film Festival, along with “Dream Healing”, which was written and directed by “Big Scary German” mom Dora Pena, stars Gabi, and features Nikki, Bryan, and Marc Daratt in its cast. Everything really is connected…
Thanks for the comments! We’ve featured several of these people and projects previously. We interviewed Bryan and James last year and would love to show “Fantasy, Inc.” either before or after the SA Film Festival. “Four Minutes til the End” is on my list of short films to showcase here as well. We also interviewed Dora Peña when “Dream Healing” showed at Cinefestival. Be sure to drop us a line if you have any other tips for great Made in SA genre works.
