"The largest Privately Owned Original Album Cover And Music Related Art Collection In The world!

This collection is the only one of it’s kind in the World. It features “only” original artwork with all pieces signed by the artists that created them. The complete collection consists of over 250 pieces of album cover and music related images. It’s works span 14 years from 1971 to 1985 and embodies works by some of the top illustrators in the country today.

From early 1973 to the end of 1975 and encompasses body of work, 70 signed original pieces. These works of art accurately depict Drew Struzan’s early years, and when fitted together like the pieces of a puzzle, they track the evolution of his style from its beginnings, as he went from a good figure artist, to what was destined to become the most in demand and recognized movie poster illustration style of our time.

Drew Struzan has become the #1 most collected artist in the world today. This is greatly due to the power and Global reach of the motion picture industry, the internet and the productivity of Struzan the artist. Like his predecessors and mentors: J.C. Lindecker, Maxfield Parrish and Norman Rockwell Drew has a large body of work to his credit. As for mass popularity, recognition and exposure, at his age Drew is light years ahead of all of them.

Wyatt, thanks for setting me straight on the identity of the "mystery artist" behind "A Minute to Pray's" cover. I can't wait to see your book. Chris D is one of those rare "rock poets" whose poetry actually transcends the genre.

Yeah -- great piece, Mike. Will have to keep an eye on your blog. Very cool. Had no idea Struzan did the SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH cover. Wow.

Nice Interview Mike. I do love that "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" album cover. It gets my vote for best Black Sabbath album art.

I would be remiss in not mentioning the wide range of work done by Drew Struzan and Ernie Cefalu for artists such as Black Sabbath ("Sabbath Bloody Sabbath") and Alice Cooper ("Welcome to my Nightmare"). I recently published an interview with Ernie about the work he did with Drew - hope that you'll read it and let me know what you think.

Thanks - keep up the great work.

I have too many favorites to only choose five (I know, what a cop out). Here's a couple of my favorite album artists instead:
Arik Roper
John Dyer Baizley

Solid choices all, but a big "Amen!" to Sanford Allen's.
FYI, on top of everything else, this Flesh Eaters album cover artwork ("Cover artist: unknown") is *also* the work of Chris D. (one of his many LP cover designs, including The Gun Club's iconic FIRE OF LOVE); "visual artist" being yet another of his too-often-unacknowledged gifts.
In fact, I've just spent the last year or so preparing a MASSIVE anthology of Chris D.'s lyrics & assorted writings into a collection *also* entitled A MINUTE TO PRAY, A SECOND TO DIE for New Texture. On Sale Now, even.
Finally, feel compelled to mention I was drooling over a new gorgeous hardcover collection of Barney Bubbles' work in the bookshop only the other evening. You can be sure I'll be socking away my spare change for that one...

I loved the album covers Roger Dean did, most notably for Yes, but my favorite of his was for Osibisa's self-titled 1971 album "Osibisa". I also liked Barry Windsor-Smith's art for the 1973 Columbia reissue of The Byrds' "Preflyte".
