FOXY: SpoCon's graphic design and production values were amongst the best I've ever seen from a con. This is the program cover. Props to John Ammon for his design goodness. Cover art by me, as originally featured on the cover of VIEWPOINTS CRITICAL by L.E. Modesitt, Jr.
Well, San Antonio, I’m home after 13 days on the road. First, I was Artist Guest of Honor at SpoCon 2009 in Spokane, WA, and then immediately flew to Montreal for the World Science Fiction Convention. It’s been a whirlwind to say the least. SpoCon 2009 was only the second SpoCon ever. It happened July 30 thru August 2nd on the Gonzaga University campus, and L.E. Modesitt, Jr., Steve Long, MSNBC.com’s Alan Boyle, Kathy Mar, and John Dalmas were my fellow GoHs. The energy and goodwill of the con staff was as good as it gets. This con will be a growing juggernaut for years to come because the con’s leadership is the perfect combo of youth and experience, and they’re willing to go the distance. I had great times with my fellow GoHs and SpoConners all weekend long. Very much enjoyed the conversations with Mike and Patty Briggs. Congrats to the con com, and special thanks to Paula Grenvik, and Randy and Char MacKay for taking good care of me. They’re first class all the way. Thanks for everything, SpoCon. You were terrific, and even better days are ahead. Here are a few glimpses of the festivities. These are my first con photos with my new iPhone, and while I think the iPhone rocks, its camera leaves much to be desired. So apologies for the dodgy quality of these images.

EVIL IN ALL SIZES: Imperial Commander with Sith Lord. Man on Stilts looms behind.

MAD MARMOTS UNITE: Tim Martin says good Scotch is an essential food group. He hosted a Scotch tasting Saturday night at SpoCon.

"GAWD, YOU'RE A SEXY BITCH, SCOTT!": Said Jen Page of Dead Gentlemen Productions (pictured here), when she saw this pic of her with Scott C. Brown. Cracked me up.

FILL 'ER UP: Clan Hood is an online gaming community. They're good people, and they treated me like family. Much respect to them. As I said that night on Twitter, what says gaming convention on a college campus more than gasoline canisters of Jagermeister and Red Bull?

CLASS ACT: The great L.E. Modesitt, Jr. and his wife, opera singer Carol Ann. Pictured here at the Onion in Spokane, where we enjoyed some of the best burgers ever. My favorite moment of the con was the prolonged standing ovation Lee received at SpoCon's Closing Ceremony.

Glad you had a great time!
