John Picacio reports from WorldCon 2009 news of the announcement last night that San Antonio is now the official Texas contender for the 2013 World Science Fiction Convention! No official word on what other cities will be contending but SA now has all of Texas fandom’s support behind it and that’s huge.
You can see details on the official (although nascent) Texas 2013 web site. You may notice some quotes pulled from a certain San Antonio-based SF/F/H site. We’re glad to see that we aren’t the only ones enamored of the Alamo City.
San Antonio hosted the very popular WorldCon (AKA LoneStarCon II) back in 1997. The convention would be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in downtown San Antonio which was also the location for LoneStarCon II. Since that time, the center has undergone a complete refurbishment and we think everyone will be impressed with the new look. You can follow the Texas 2013 happenings on Twitter or email Chairman Bill Parker to get on the email list.
If you are interested in financially supporting the con bid, you can make a contribution online.

I am SOOOOO there!
Jayme – You and me and so many more. The 1997 convention was a blast but I worked too hard to totally enjoy it. This time I will enjoy as well.
Woohoo! That’ll be soooo groovy.
Stay posted, folks. I’m sure we’ll be bringing you plenty of updates as this thing unfolds.
At this time, there are no other bids for the 2013 Worldcon. There’s still lots of time, however, as the filing deadline isn’t until February 2011, and the election to choose the site won’t be until August 2011.
I hyperventilated a little bit when I read this post! I firmly believe that Missions Unknown played a large part in helping to bring recognition to San Antonio & our fandoms. Doctor Who Fans Unite & Worlds Collide are on board to help in any way we can!
This would be huge! I’ve got my fingers crossed.
Joe
So cool! This year was the first time I voted in the Hugos, so I am so excited at the prospect of living in the host city!
I plan to volunteer as much as I can, folks. I do have experience in the field, lol. And I know quite a few of you, which surprises me. I’m hoping y’all are more than some others.
Scott and Jayme especially, I hope I can volunteer enough to make up for y’all having more fun than 2 seals in a barrel of oysters!

Guess what I found! One of the Programs from LSC II! I am slowly going through some of Momma’s collection, and turning up things. I think I will try to put together a display of fan history here for the last 30 years. Any suggestions y’all?
Is it even a good idea? I didn’t get much response from people who Momma considered her dear friends when I did a small one…

Tonight we will be meeting at the new digs of 9Lives Bookstore at 4919 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78229-5311,

Hi all,
Ursa Major has upcoming meetings for January through March of 2011. Help us build a club that can be an active participates at Worldcon 2013 if San Antonio wins the bid. Oh, and right now, the other choice is Zahgreb, Croatia. I’m told that Zahgreb is a beautiful, culturally rich city, but I’d still like to see the convention repeat here. The previous Worldcon held in Texas was in 1997.
For more information on meetings, check our website!
Here’s the future schedule for everyone:
January 14 is elections for club, elections for board, and December’s delayed Social
February 10 is business
February 25 Social 10 is business
March 10 is business
