Should We Watch The Mighty Boosh?

The Mighty Boosh 2 on DVD

The Mighty Boosh 2 on DVD

Several of us here at Missions Unknown are fans of British television, actively watching Dr. Who and Torchwood. We can spin Monty Python quotes and references with the best of them. We listened to The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on the radio and ate up the cheesy BBC television production. We rolled on the floor watching Red Dwarf.

So now comes THE MIGHTY BOOSH from across the sea. Their television show can be seen on Cartooon Network’s Adult Swim and the troupe is currently touring the US promoting the US DVD release. Their tour started with the San Diego Comic Con.

The Mighty Boosh has already caught the attention of U.S. media with The New York Times calling the series “hilarious,” Rolling Stone calling it a cult favorite in the U.S.” and The San Jose Mercury News describing it as “an acid-trip fantasy-comedy [that] is seriously deranged and seriously funny.”

Thats all well and good, but we’ve never watched the show!

Since Worlds Collide head organizer Marcella Muncy mentioned that she was a fan, The Mighty Boosh contacted Missions Unknown to promote their new DVD release. They even sent us a couple of discs to give away. So, if you want to win a copy of “The Mighty Boosh 2″ drop us a comment below and let us know why we should watch The Mighty Boosh. Why will this show appeal to SF junkies like Mission Control?

The judging will be purely subjective, with the most compelling and/or funniest entry getting the swag.

If you don’t feel like being witty, but still want the disc, you can always just buy The Mighty Boosh at the BBC America shop.

And now, let the games begin…

  • I don’t think I can be funny or witty. I have only seen a few episodes of the show and I will admit it is original, weird and surprisingly funny. Marcella is the expert on the show and actually got to meet all of them at Comic Con. Hopefully she will read the blog and let everyone know about her adventures at Comic Con. Can I get a disk for being the first person to post? :)

  • Seriously no one else is going to comment on this? Ok if you haven’t ever seen the show then here are a few clips off of Youtube that Marcella had recommended:

Just copy and paste the links into your browser.

  • We’re not in a hurry Crystal. We’ll leave the contest open for a week (more or less). You’re in the lead…so far.

  • I guess I thought a lot of the sci-fi group was into the show. How cool is it that they contacted Missions Unknown!

  • Mistah Pete

It’s on Cartoon Network but it’s not animated — and you can hardly tell the difference. That’s why it’s the best show on TV. Even I can make myself stay up til midnight to watch it. You guys should definitely get turned on to it.

Where else on television can you see a plethora of magical characters such as a homeless fox who is addicted to crack (The Crack Fox), a green, scaly, transsexual merman from who’s mangina shines a blinding light (Old Gregg) and a shaman’s familiar who DJ’s on the side (Bollo The Gorilla).

In the words of a disembodied-pink-head topped with a bulbous shape vaguely resembling a phallus (Tony Harrison)”this is an outrage!” And you need to start watching the show to find out why the zookeeper, Bob Fossil, doesn’t like cricket!

  • Mistah Pete

Season Two (if this is in fact Season Two we’re talking about) won’t have the zoo element. It’s the season running now, with the guys sharing an apartment and sort of in a band. Season One was the zoo, Season Three is the shop. Season Four? We’ll see.

It’s also got the cast of “Garth Marenghi’s ‘DarkPlace’” all over it. That’s another show you guys need to get geeked on, it’s right up the Missions Unknown gutter.

  • Reese, why don’t you share some of your stories about meeting the Mighty Boosh at Comic Con?

  • Judy in SATX

Oooh, I say watch! The Brits are so funny in a way so different from what we get on this side of the pond (huge Red Dwarf fan here).

Besides, it’s an excuse to say the word “Boosh”. Come on, that would be fun, wouldn’t it? Boosh, boosh, boosh.

  • Sara

Watch it. This show includes songs about mutant races, travels to Monkey Hell, and outfits reminiscent of David Bowie (and that’s all just in the first season). Appealing to the sci-fi fan in you, I say do it.

Also, there’s a hilarious Mick Jagger impression. Who doesn’t love that?

  • Laura Garcia

Haha, can’t be funny or witty when I need to be! I’ll just say, awesome, awesome show :) I’ll also say “Boosh, Boosh, stronger than a moose. Don’t lock your doors or they’ll come through your roof top!!”

  • Julio B

Yeah, man! This show is groovy and far out smooth, the bee’s knees and the cat’s meow! The cheesy FX and lax pace just mellows you out after a long day of American harshness. I’d go to Monkey Hell and back to watch it. Peace, you all!

  • Hi! I love Mighty Boosh too, so surrealistic and fun. I’ve just made a mix of Lady Gaga’s “Love Game” with the Mighty Boosh’s original dialog. Check it out on my site!: DJ Bread n Butter
