WIZARD OF OZ fans, click your heels together three times and get ready to swing.

Public Radio International’s RIVERWALK JAZZ is airing “Silver Shoes & Green Spectacles: A Jazz Interpretation of The Wizard of Oz.” San Antonio’s JIM CULLUM JAZZ BAND and actor VERNEL BAGNERIS will take a trip to the Emerald City with a script from L. Frank Baum’s classic work of fantastic fiction and music from Harold Arlen’s movie score.

Jim Cullum’s band specializes in the early years of jazz, specifically the small-ensemble work of the ’20s and ’30s. Arlen’s Oz score seems like a good fit, considering he wrote plenty of the era’s jazz standards, including “Stormy Weather” and “I’ve Got the World on a String.”
If you’re in San Antonio, you can hear the show 7 p.m. on Saturday on KSTX and KTXI, and it repeats at noon on Sunday on KSTX. Check Jim’s website for times and stations if you live elsewhere.
