Who: Boxcar Satan
Where: The Limelight in San Antonio, TX
When: Friday, June 26th / 10pm
Opening acts: Los Mescaleros & The Sandworms
How much: A mere $5

Here’s where all of San Antonio’s cool kids will be on Friday night!

So what does Boxcar Satan’s music have to do with science fiction, fantasy and horror in San Antonio? Read on:

1. “Traveling Man” — Boxcar Satan’s loving tribute to horror grandmaster Joe R. Lansdale’s novel THE BOTTOMS

2. “Breakfast In The Ruins” – The title of a classic Michael Moorcock novel, reappropriated into a slow blues bare-knuckler

3. “Fade Out” — “…..Beam me up to the mothership!…..” Nuff said!

4. “Knuckle Bone” – Just another ode to a long lost love. If that long lost love was a skeleton….

5. Buy a Boxcar Satan shirt. What better says you’re one of SA’s horror illuminati than having “Satan” emblazoned huge across your chest?

6. Sanford Allen — He’s gonna hate me and Paul for calling him out here, but Boxcar Satan’s been together 15+ years, and they’ve earned the respect. Sanford’s not only one of the main men of Mission Control, but he’s the lead singer/guitarist for one of the most potent bands San Antonio’s ever produced. AND he’s an emerging horror/dark fantasy writer, racking up published credits, one story at a time. Where does the guy find the hours? Don’t miss San Antonio’s best musical exorcism Friday night! :)

Oh, man! And I’m going to be in Houston for ApolloCon. You guys have fun without me and I know you will. Boxcar Satan live is a truly awesome treat. Rock ‘em Sanford!

So, how did the show go? JOhn, Paul – we need an update. Sanford – keep rocking.

  • The show was great! I missed The Sandworms, but everyone said they rocked so I bought the CD. I can dig some San Antonio goth surf with titles like “Red Planet Green Love” and “Aztec Mummy Man”. De Los Muertos and Los Mescaleros put on excellent shows. Los Boxcar Satanicos did not go on until after 1:00. Although Sanford said they were sloppy, everybody had a really good time. The Limelight turned on the lights to indicate closing time towards the end of “Feast of the Mau Mau” but were gracious enough to let Boxcar finish their set with BÖC’s “Dominance and Submission” before ushering us out onto the street at the point of a bullhorn. All told, it was a great way to start my week of birthday festivities.
